Holiday Spirit Week:
We had a hilariously fun week together celebrating Holiday Spirit Week at LBS! Thank you for sending your children with holiday spirit, festive clothing/accessories and with continued excitement and joy for school. It was a fabulous way to close out the first half of Grade 1/2! PS - I hope you enjoy participating in our Holiday Challenge! I look forward to hearing stories or even seeing pictures when we return to school!

Grade 1/2 in Room 10 for Christmas Carolling!

Holiday Challenge! Sent home with all students
(if you were away, please email me and I can send you a copy to print off at home!)

Math: Games!
Our favourite way to practice the knowledge and skills we learn in class is to play games! These are some of the games we learned this week to help us add, subtract, and learn more about shape attributes. Ask your child about the strategies they use when adding or subtracting!

Science: Snowflakes
As Scientists, we are exploring Snowflakes. We begun our learning by having a discussion about what we already know and what we want to know. This shows students critical thinking as they are able to communicate their prior knowledge and ask questions that they are curious about. This winter inspired inquiry will challenge students to demonstrate skills and procedures outlined in the front matter of the curriculum. See below!

Word Work: Holiday Words
Our class brainstormed Holiday Words and WOW we had so many that we almost ran out of room on our poster! Students used this word list during Daily LA's Word Work station to practice different strategies like ABC Order, red & blue words, rainbow words and our newest one: sailboat! Ask your child which word work option is their favourite so far from our menu!

Reading: Sight Words!
We have been practicing reading sight words in Daily LA. Sight words are words that we all need to know as they help us string together sentences. They can be tricky because we can't always sound them out with chunking or segmenting or stretching like usual. Here is a sample list of Grade 1 and 2 sight words. This full list will be sent home with the Home Reading Packages soon!
