November 1-5

 UPCOMING DATES:

  • November 11: Remembrance Day (NO SCHOOL)
  • November 12: PD Day (NO SCHOOL)
  • November 25: Evening Conferences
  • November 26: Conferences (NO SCHOOL)

Reading: Annotating & Article Reading

Rhea: we read an article about zero-waste restaurants which means restaurants that do not have garbage cans and they use recycled materials to decorate the spaces!

Preston: some restaurants we read about are Rhadora in New York and Frea in Germany.

Avery: These restaurants use composting machines to break down foods and give back to local farms to use.

Sophie: We used Annotating Symbols to help us understand what we were reading. For example, we use the checkmark symbol to show we understand and circles to show words that were unfamiliar.

Quincy: We are making a glossary on the back page of the article so that we can learn about what the different, important words meant.

Rhea: On the glossary, we had to list the words, find the definition and then practice using the word in a sentence so we can show that we really know what the word means.

Ask me more about my reading comprehension and glossary!

Math: Area Model & Jersey Problem

Hector: We got a new problem in math that said the school was getting a Kickball Team and we needed to order jerseys. The Grade 4s and Grade 5s got different numbers to work with and also were challenged to make different graphs. The Grade 5s made double bar graphs and the Grade 4s made Pictographs!

Ask us about our multiplication for this problem! Also - ask me to show you how to solve a 1x2 digit or 2x2 multiplication question using the area model.
