Open House

Hello Families,

We are happy to host our Open House this Thursday from 4:00-6:00pm. You are welcome to come at a time within the 4:00-6:00 block that works best for your family. You are not expected to be here for the full two hours. The front doors and garden doors will be open during this time. We ask that families please travel in the school together.  Please start in your classroom and meet your child’s teacher. Mrs. Kawchuk will be in the music room and Mrs. Brady will be in the Learning Commons. The gym is CLOSED for after school care.

School Council will have tables set up by the garden compound. Please stop by to get information about getting involved in Council, yearbook and some of the fundraising opportunities. School Council has a special treat to share and we ask that all treats are enjoyed outside and not brought into the school.

Tomorrow is our Terry Fox Run in the afternoon. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for this event!

Dot Day

On Thursday it was International Dot Day. This day is inspired by Peter H. Reynold's book "The Dot" which celebrates creativity. All. grade 1/2 classes participated in a collaborative dot art project which you can see on display in the hallway on Thursday evening during the Open House. We worked with our Grade 5/6 Buddies to complete our very own Dots!

Patterns in Math

We continued exploring patterns in math and are excited to share our pattern art with you at our Open House. Something special we began to notice is how the days, weeks and months of the year are a cycle/pattern! We also noticed how there are so many patterns in nature. We explored this during our work period with Nomenclature cards and sketching techniques.

Scholastic Book Orders

Scholastic Book Orders

This afternoon your child brought home a scholastic book order flyer after attending the Calgary Public Library K-2 Book Blast! We got super excited about books and reading and couldn't wait to take a look at the flyers.

If you wish to order through scholastic, please use our class code: RC107700
as it helps us build our classroom library as well!

Here is a link to the digital flyer if you wish to view it: Digital Flyer

September 6-9

Make sure to check your child's backpack for a brown envelope! Some paperwork is digital this year and the rest is in the envelope to be returned as soon as possible.

Placemats
During snack time students will be using placemats in their space as part of our Montessori practical-life learning. Our laminated placemats don't hold out very well so we are asking for a placemat from home if possible. Something simple that can fit in your child's lunch kit is perfect - even a tea towel works! The placemat is meant to travel to and from school each day. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Absences
If your child is going to be absent, please make sure to contact the phone via phone or email. I would also appreciate being cc'd on the email so I am kept in the loop! Thanks in advance.

Physical Education
This year, we will have a gym time every other day. On the days that we do not have time in the gym, we will be going outside for phys ed. Please make sure your child has appropriate shoes for both indoor and outdoor phys ed. At LBS, we love to go outside in all types of weather (unless it's colder than -20) so we will be going outside - rain or shine!

  • Wednesday, September 21st - Terry Fox Run
  • Thursday, September 22nd - Welcome Back Open House
