Fitness BINGO!

FITNESS BINGO AT LBS!

All of the classes at Lake Bonavista School are participating in a fitness bingo challenge from February 23-April 8! We wanted to share the bingo card with you so you can continue the fun at home! At school, each time a class completes a ‘blackout’ bingo card, they will be added to a draw and entered to win bonus recess time! If your family complete all of the exercises on a bingo card at your house, please notify your classroom teacher and your child’s class will receive an additional entry in the draw.

Each exercise on the bingo card is to be completed in an interval style - 20 seconds of the exercise, followed by 10 seconds of rest. In order to cross the activity off of your bingo card you must complete a minimum of 4 interval sets. If some of the exercises are unfamiliar, please ask your child to teach you the movement.

Feel free to check out the video below for a further explanation of the bingo challenge.

Writing: New Years Resolutions & Biographies

Welcome back & Happy New Year! Our class began this week setting intentions for 2022 with One Word Resolutions. We will be completing some art and writing to go alongside this project. Ask your child what word they've chosen to focus on in 2022 and WHY!

Biography Writing:

During Writer's Workshop, we have been exploring Autobiographies and Biography writing. We all wrote an autobiography on ourselves focusing on our family, school, hobbies, interests, and hopes/dreams for the future. We then got to interview each other in class and write a biography about that classmate! It was super fun to learn about each other and we can't wait to read about each other in the published copies (coming soon!!)

Math: Shape & Space

Students have been learning about the attributes of 2D and 3D shapes. Grade 4 and 5s have explored a variety of math concepts such as parallel lines, perpendicular lines, symmetry, Venn diagrams,  Carroll diagrams, protractor and angles. See some pictures below of different activities completed by both the 4s and 5s!

Students have also been exploring Elapsed Time through new strategies. Ask your student about the different strategies we have practiced and give them some time problems to solve at home!

French: Project Time!

Our class is exploring different topics in French and completing projects that we will present to the class. Grade 4s: Ma Famille and Grade 5s: Le Zoo. Ask your child about what they've included in their project! If you want to check out IRIS - you could hear your Grade 4's Famille script!

Science: Weather Watch + Light & Shadow

To build our research skills, reading comprehension abilities and independence in work period - students are completing self-directed and paced research on grade level science topics. Grade 5s are learning about Weather phenomena and Grade 4s are exploring concepts involving Light & Shadow. We've watched some amazing videos during snack and inquiry time, created mind-maps and had some great discussions.

ART!
  • Sophie: This week we started some new art where we made Ugly Christmas Sweaters!
  • Emma: We talked about what all ugly Christmas sweaters must have. Our success criteria is:
    • 3 or more colours
    • A winter/holiday theme
    • A middle focus like a drawing of something (deer, tree, hot chocolate)

    • Optional: a Christmas joke or pun!
